January is usually a very quiet month at Lion Camp. It is a month of heavy rains that make the roads impassible and leave the camp accessible only by boat.
It is the time of year when most of our staff take time off to spend with their families and friends at home, plant crops, fish and enjoy some much deserved downtime. This year is a little different! Although the camp has been inaccessible by road and for some of the month by river too, the place is buzzing with activity.
With a large team in camp the renovations are moving swiftly. The rooms are coming together, the new main area decking is being laid and the new boma is taking shape. Next month the Lion Camp refurb team will be traveling up river to see the progress and we’ll be sharing photos of their trip (with hopefully a few river wildlife sightings on the way), as well as up-to-date photos of the camp. We’ll also be featuring a write-up on our two head chefs, Freddie and Phil, who are currently enrolled in a top culinary school in South Africa.
Upcoming travel shows
Lion Camp will be exhibiting at the Kamageo Safari Road Show 2018 in the UK in late February and at We Are Africa in Cape Town in May. We will also be represented by Mantis Collection at ITB Berlin and at Indaba in Durban. Please let us know if you will be at any of these shows and would like to organise a meeting. We’d love the opportunity to meet with you.
